As we enter the last scorching days of June, headed into the likely blaze of July, Kelsi Walker drops a new single that screams “summer.” A band leader, community creator, and cheerleader for the scene, Kelsi has always had a song in her back pocket for when the occasion arises. “Thinking of You” immediately introduces an exuberant indie-pop-rock melody that captures the heart of the song: one part nostalgia, one part carefree youthfulness. Behind the guitar, the drums and keys set us in the era of late nights, bare feet in the grass, and the ever-lingering thought of possible romance. Walker’s warm rasp brings the listener closer to the memories of youth and passion, always on the edge of breaking, but always too strong to care. Toward the end of the song, the guitar melody comes back as a choir of “la la las” from a myriad of voices from the Knoxville music scene, going to show that Kelsi’s support of other local musicians does not go unnoticed. As a reminder of past loves and a meditation on learning to trust yourself, surely this song will be shared on many stages with many people. All the while, Kelsi, Knoxville will be Thinking of You.
